Description

Wolf Tooth was the first to bring cyclocross-specific 1x chainrings to market as we saw cyclocross as the perfect application for our Drop-Stop technology. Since their release, the uses of these chainrings have expanded beyond cyclocross to commuting, gravel riding and even full road applications with the 52T chainrings.

- Compatible with 130 BCD 5-arm cranks

- Drop Stop technology. On Wolf Tooth's patented wide/narrow chainring, the wide side of the tooth has maximum contact on the drive side, which distributes the load and improves chainring life. The narrow side allows clearance for mud and debris, which reduces friction.

- The alternating wide/narrow teeth prevent the chain from derailing

Compatibility

These chainrings are for use with 130 BCD 5-arm cranks.
NOT compatible with Shimano DA 9000 / Ultegra 6800 cranks
Not compatible with Campy CX10/11.
SRAM Exogram cranks with recessed nut must use a fifth bolt + original spacer(s). The Force CX1 bolt features a fifth bolt with a 1x-specific shoulder. This kit is available online.
Important note 38T: The chain may slightly touch the spider arm when using the 38T chainring (see the last photo in the product images).
We recommend adding a small chamfer to the spider arm, but you can also simply install it and let the chain do the work. This is only an issue with the 38T as the 130 BCD was designed for the smaller 39T ring.
Stock 2x bolts will not work. You will need bolts such as our 6 mm bolts which are optimised for single ring mounting.
This 1x chainring can be mounted in the inner or outer ring position of a double crankset but cannot be used in a 2x configuration.
Chainline - The most common mounting position is in the outer ring position due to bottom bracket clearance. The centreline of the ring is approximately 2 mm from the ring mounting face, so they are generally about 2 mm closer to the frame than the original large ring (depends on the original ring)

Use Drop-Stop B for all 9, 10 and 11-speed chains or 12-speed SRAM Eagle, SRAM Flattop, Campagnolo, KMC, Connex or Wippermann chains

Recommendations

If you plan to ride in very muddy conditions, we recommend a chain guide or chain guard in addition to a clutch-type rear derailleur. Without these precautions, you risk experiencing chaindrops and/or chainsucks.
