The Tanpan allows Shimano 10 and 11-speed road shifters to work with 10 and 11-speed MTB rear derailleurs.
Cross borders and break down walls: the Tanpan brings the range and security of Shimano mountain rear derailleurs to drop bar bikes equipped with Shimano. This means greater gear range for bigger adventures, better chain security for rough terrain, lighter weight and reduced complexity for daily commutes.
In order to deliver these benefits, the Tanpan amplifies shift cable pull to enable seamless communication with mountain derailleurs. The result is ideal for cyclists looking to convert their road, gravel, cyclocross or commuter bike to the simplicity and lightness of a single chainring - or for those whose riding demands a lower gear than a typical double can provide. With the addition of a rear derailleur equipped with a Shadow+ clutch, the Tanpan offers unmatched chain security for Shimano road drivetrains.
The 17 g Tanpan installs in moments, nestling perfectly above the rear derailleur and an indexed barrel adjuster allows quick and easy cable adjustment. Each Tanpan is CNC machined in the USA by Wolf Tooth and is equipped with precision stainless steel hardware and a sealed cartridge bearing.
Compatibility
- Compatible with most road, gravel and CX bikes.
- Tiagra 4700 is compatible with Tanpan but for correct shifting, use Tanpan 11-speed and an 11-speed rear derailleur with a 10-speed cassette.
- The Deore M5100 rear derailleur is compatible with the Tanpan 11
- ONLY compatible with Tiagra 4700 when using Tanpan 11 and corresponding 11-speed derailleur.
- The Tanpan 10 is compatible with Shimano M980, M780, M670 and M610 derailleurs
- Shimano 10-speed mountain derailleurs can be used with only a slight decrease in shifting performance.
- Shimano ST-RX400-R GRX 10-speed shifters use a different cable pull than Shimano 10-speed shifters. For correct shifting, use Tanpan 11-speed with a Shimano 11-speed mountain rear derailleur and a 10-speed cassette.
- The Tanpan 11 is compatible with Shimano 11-speed road shifters and optimised for Shimano eleven-speed mountain derailleurs (includes the new Dura Ace 9100)
- The Tanpan 11 is designed to be mounted directly onto the cable stops without adjustment on Shimano rear derailleurs. Tanpan 10 should be mounted inline for optimal performance.
- Shimano 11-speed mountain derailleurs can be used with only a slight decrease in shifting performance.
Important note: if the rear derailleur cable is routed internally through the chainstay and exits at the end of the chainstay above the axle or beyond the axle at the very end, you will need to use the inline version. This is because the Tanpan barrel adjuster end sits too close to the frame for the internally routed cable to exit the frame and enter the Tanpan barrel adjuster. The Inline Tanpan includes a ferrule and replaces the barrel adjuster in a 4 mm cable housing.
