The RoadLink derailleur hanger extension is a unique patented device that compensates for your road derailleur position to allow the use of a wide-range MTB-style cassette. It's an ideal solution for riders looking to convert their road, gravel, cyclocross or commuter bike to achieve the simplicity and reduced weight of a single front chainring, but without sacrificing the gear range of a double. It's also ideal for riders with double chainring bikes who want a lower gear for ultra-steep climbs. It doesn't compromise shifting in the smaller cogs of the cassette, yet still allows the derailleur to work with a cassette as large as a 40T cassette.
- Easily installed in under 5 minutes by any home mechanic.
- The RoadLink only mounts on standard derailleur hangers.
The RoadLink™ is optimised for use with 10 or 11-speed 11-36t and 11-40t cassettes and works perfectly with Wolf Tooth 40-tooth GC cassette extensions and Drop-Stop chainrings. The RoadLink is optimised around Shimano road derailleurs. It works perfectly for road, cyclocross, touring, commuter and gravel bikes.
Compatibility
- 10s cassette compatibility:
- 11-32: Not required (medium cage GS rear derailleur works)
- 11-34: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-36: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-40: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-42: Not supported
- 11s cassette compatibility:
- 11-32: Not required (medium cage GS rear derailleur works)
- 11-34: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-36: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-40: Simple (for double chainring ensure not to exceed derailleur capacity)
- 11-42: Not supported
- 10-42: Not supported
- Double chainrings are only supported with GS (medium cage) rear derailleurs. You may need to change the front gear to avoid exceeding the rear derailleur capacity.
- The RoadLink™ only mounts on standard derailleur hangers.
- The RoadLink™ is optimised for 10 and 11-speed Shimano road derailleur geometry. It also works very well with 9-speed road derailleurs. Traditional SRAM derailleurs work but not the 1x-specific X-HORIZON rear derailleurs. Campy derailleurs work best with cassettes up to 11-36.
- SRAM Exact Actuation road shifters (10s and 11s) are interchangeable with their Exact Actuation mountain derailleurs - which can easily handle a 36 or 40 (and, for 1x, are available with a clutch) - and the CX1 will go even bigger with a single ring. If you already have SRAM, they also make nice front-only brake levers that also match their rear shifters.
- Triple chainrings are not supported (medium cage rear derailleurs cannot accommodate such a wide range).
- Native Direct Mount frames are not supported.
- Due to the absence of a clutch mechanism on Shimano road derailleurs, a secondary chain retention device (front derailleur or chain device) may be necessary, especially for tough or off-road use.
- Due to variations in derailleur hanger geometry, chainstay length, chainring size, B-screw adjustment and suspension setup, individual results will vary.
- This maximum dimension of 7.9 mm is controlled by Shimano specifications, but a few derailleur hangers do not meet specifications. You can file down the lower part of these derailleur hangers slightly to install the RoadLink™.
